The Excalibur Wood and Art of Wood Studio is located in the tiny town of Frederick, just north of Denver, Colorado. It is situated about 25 miles north of Denver, 15 miles Northeast of Boulder and 10 miles Southeast of Longmont, in the Carbon Valley. Out in the prairie, Frederick was established in the late 1800 as a coal mine town. When you drive north from Denver, the vast fields and farm lands are dotted with oil and gas wells. We even have a gas well in our backyard about 500 feet away from our home.
In 1997, Art of Wood was created out of a collaboration between me, Troy Martin and Stan Johnson who is located in Portland, Oregon.
The business and the studio moved across the country several times during the past 10 years. Last fall we established a permanent residence in Frederick.
I have had several studios during the years including a mobile shop. Now I have 1000+ square feet of work and layout area to create my treasures.
In August 2006, I created Excalibur Wood and shifted my art creation to primarily small boxes and continuing with my passion of turning platters.
I changed the name to Excalibur after researching our family heritage. It is named for the famous sword Excalibur of King Arthur. The name signifies the best of craftsmanship, a cut above the best, and a desire to be the best I can be when creating my treasures.
As the primary artist, I am responsible for all aspects of the business. From creating the art, photographing the pieces, and managing the web site. As a graphic artist, I created Excalibur Wood, to be an expression of my talent.
I choose to host the Excalibur Wood on the Yahoo.com system to take advantage of the many small business tools needed to keep a web address running. This allows me more free time to create the treasures you see here and be able to offer them to you at a reasonable price.
